Hey guy's im working on a new 2d boxing game. It's actually 3d but it will be played from a side view just as you do in ob2d. I am basicly trying to recreate something similar to ob2d. Punches with different ranges, slips, ducking, leaning etc etc. Im just starting this project but I wanted you guys to know there is hope and a promising future. Here are a few screenshots of some of the punch animations and what not. And to give you an idea what the player models will look like. They don't have any textures on them yet, boxing gloves or trunks. But this is just a sneak peak. Check out the pics here and give me some feed back.

Within a few weeks or so I will post a video showing off some of the game mechanics and what not.

I was also considering making a few seperate classes. Slugger, balnced, dancer, etc

maybe 3 or 4, basicly a slugger get's a bonus to power, more health but lesser speed, footwork.. and a dancer get's better footwork, stamina, head movment yet packs less of a punch aswell. So not only can you create your fighter's appearance, face, skin tone, facial hair, hairstyle trunks, glove color. You will also be able to pick a class that suits the way you'd like to play most.

Nice, looks good. I feel threatened what do you make it in ? it has a flaw though, 3D models !...which will bring the wrath of the OB2D people upon you .

Im making it in blender. And mikkel, how would you feel about the idea of making ob3d simply a game played from the side view like you do in ob2d. That way its just forward and backward movment and still has a similar concept as ob2d. And out of curiosity what did you make ob3d in.

Ah blender..I tried it once..it's very cool but didnt give me the level of control that I wanted. I like the Python language a lot more than Java though.
3D is made using jmonkeyengine and physx. You still see boxers from a sideways angle, but you have the added option of sidestepping, weaving left and right, ducking, punching from these angles etc..can't really change that, I WON'T change that or it's not 3D anymore .
Good luck with your project.

lol @ your little eye rolling smiley face. I played a ob3d for the first time by the way a few days ago. I've got the controls down pat for the most part and I really like it. However it just seems like you hit the guy clean and it just doesnt register. Sucks too because i'll have my man hurt and I just cant finish him because what looks to be landing just isn't

Heres a video of some of the progress I've been making. These are just some of the punching animations and they still need work. I need to adjust the ranges slightly and also get the animations fine tuned. Making the feet pivot when punching and what not, subtle thing's to make it look all the more realistic.

also note that the animations are slightly slower then they actually are.

I made my flurry straight's more like wing chun punches or how many pac thow's them when using straight's at a slightly closer range.

I plan on making it to where not only when you throw flurry straights you move forward a bit like in ob2d. But also when you throw flurry uppcuts to the body you will slowly back up.
