Take rounds off, lose a round on purpose and hardly throw anything. Concentrate this whole round on staying at a distance out of the way of the shots and if they get inside then goto your clinching game and push them back. Basically learn to stay stood up without throwing back for periods of time and learn to use your movement as a defensive tool aswell as your arms.
If you can master stepping in and out of the hit range without getting hit then when you actually decide to use punches it will be like you have an advantage and your counter game will be a hell of a lot stronger for it. Most of defence also is knowing the fighter you are going against, each one has a unique style so if you fight them enough you will figure out what combos they like to throw and at what times etc.
It's mostly about being on the ball dude, keep sharp and stay busy/focused always thinking about what can happen next like in a chess game.

Never go down unless your doing the up-down method. There's too many ways you can get hit when your down.
Rocky told me about the position where, if you block (cross arms), you can't get hit. It's pretty useful. When they get move and you go out of position, block accordingly and clinch.

Mikkel if you want I could teach you a thing or two about defence, but at the end of the day defence is an art and it is up to you to teach yourself.

a load of different defences are needed to compensate.
i like to box and move always throwign the jab. knowing that if they come back with anything I.E. hook, cross i am in a position to come back slip or just simply move out the way.
on the inside i personally like to cross my arms and stay just in the same distance of a right uppercut. at this distance you all body punches are either too far or too close and head shots are nullified by the block.
problem is that if your oppoant looks for it he will throw the spam jabs then as soon as you raise your arms to block from striaghts you get tagged by a left hook.
also slipping to you right (blocks left hand punches) and getting real close...just before your clinchign ais a masterful defence.
just taking a millistep back to land a right cross will keep people from swarming you.
i was looking back at my fights during my 15 fight losing streak and i noticed that i forgot to move at all...that little bounce back and forward makes it very hard top land clean shots. just leaning and ducking can get you so far, but once people put combinations together ...you had it.

Nah my defence is nothing like what Ike says. I can not stay in mid range i just can do it for somereason. I either stay on the outside and keep my opponents honest with well timed jabs and from no where rush to the inside and attack, or just rush to the inside and make my opponent miss all their power punches for about 20 seconds and clinch. If you do this you will notice that as the fight wears on the rounds will be scored closely, but that your opponent will have half or thee times less stamina then you, which allows me to put on one of my patented late round rallies that usually win the fight for me

I have a certain strategy that I am working on...it is very defensive...but also risky...it is only useful in a 15 round title fight though...or in some cases a 12 round fight.
It's basically luring your opponent into thinking you are hurt...let them hit you to the point you are in the red...keep doing this...BUT DON'T..I REPEAT...DON'T let them knock you down...this is vital...
Once they have you in the red multiple times and don't knock you down...they usually get restless and throw A LOT of punches...make sure when they have this "attack surge" make sure you defend and don't get hit...
A good way to lure the opponent in is to crouch a lot...so they instinctivley go for the body hook...but after crouching for a second, stand back up... move back...cross arms...move back and fourth..don't just stand still, keep moving...even wiggle your head a lot!!! JUST DON'T STAND STILL!!!
Ok...if you follow those instructions, and survive up until the 10th round...this is when you implament the second phase of strategy... by the 10th round...your opponent should be really gassed and tired...your stamina bar should be full... this is the time where I tend to counter punch...and then follow the counters with forward moving and pressure... lots of punches in bunches!!! Keep this up until you knock him out...
(DO NOT LEAVE IT TO POINTS...THIS STRATEGY IS DESIGNED FOR KO or TKO ONLY!!!)
A lot of you will disagree with me and say it's a lame tactic...but it worked for me against a lot of fighters...however it doesn't work against smart fighters...so only use this tactic against aggressive fighters that like to attack!
Hope that helps!

Leaning to the side can be a affective defensive tactic and also set up some good offense.
...and you can tailor which way you lean based on certain situations and which fighter you're against.
